Eyebrows

I know this is a hair blog, but today I was like, "Oh my gosh, my eyebrows need waxing SOOOO bad!" So I thought we could talk about eyebrows.

Before. Embarrassing, huh?

After.
Here is the general rules for eyebrows...

Use a pencil and draw a line from your nose to the corner of your eye to your brow. that's where your brow should start.

Okay, for the arch... Draw a line from your nose to the middle of your eye, and up to your brow. That's where your highest point of your arch should be...
Then, for the end of your brow, you should draw a line from your nose to the corner of your eye, to your brow. I should try to grow mine in a little tiny bit there.

I usually don't remove any hair above the brow. I will wax the top a little to remove any stragglers, but generally, you want your eyes to look bigger and open, and if you remove a bunch of hair above the brow going into it, it will make your eyes look smaller or saggy.

I also used some matte eyeshadow and filled in my brows a bit. I have really light eyebrows and eyelashes, so I've found if I fill them in a little, they look better.

I like to keep the natural shape of a person's eyebrow. If you naturally have straighter eyebrows, I like to still wax an arch in there, but for the the general shape, I would keep them kind of straight... Make sense?

Boys Haircut

Here's another boy's haircut to show you...
Before picture...

Started with a #2 and go all around the head, about up to the temples...

Take the little trimmers and trim around the hairline...

Now wet it, and take horizontal sections on top in the middle section...
Pull a little from that section forward, and use that as your guide and cut that section...

Now take that section and cut it vertically... Just cut off the points...

You cut off the points, see?

Now use that first section as your guide, and cut the side top sections...

See the guide?

Take those sections and cut them vertically too. Just cut off the points though...

Now to blend the top with the sides, I am using a technique that is a little harder for beginners. It's called scissor-over-comb. If you can't or don't feel comfortable doing it, refer to my other boy's haircut I posted here. In that one, I just took the hair in little sections going around the head, and cut off the points.

To do this scissor-over-comb, you just comb the hair upward, and cut off the hair little bits at a time.
All done...

Fast Twist

Lately I've been doing this really fast twist on Sophia's hair. It's not the cutest, but I love that it is fast, keeps all her wispy's in, and still looks like I did her hair :)

Here's how you do it...

Take a piece and just start twisting...
Add chunks of hair as you go...

See, keep adding...

I decided to do it on both sides this time...

Add a bow, and it looks better :)

Love doing just one, and having a side ponytail, or this messy bun I did for church the other day...

My husband said she looks like a flamingo dancer :)

Cheap vs. Expensive Shampoo

Yes, I'll admit, I am a cheap skate.

I buy my Biolage shampoo and Conditioner by the gallon at my beauty supply store. But it has not been on sale in a while, so I bought Herbal Essences Shampoo, and Suave Conditioner to try to last me until it was on sale. Let me just tell you... It sucks. I will not stoop so low as to wash my clients hair in such cheap stuff, but for my hubby and I, I did it.

First let me tell you about the shampoo: I have to use 4X as much in order to even get a descent lather and to feel like it even saturated my hair. Then I feel like it doesn't even rinse easy. I do not like. If I have to use so much more, it really isn't much cheaper than the expensive stuff.

Now for the conditioner: I have to use about 6X as much as usual, and then my hair is still so snarly and feels kinda like straw when I am brushing it. I HATE.

Biolage is my favorite. It lathers well, rinses well, smells yummy, and leaves my hair tangle free and static free. I love you dear Biolage. Please go on sale soon.

"If you have bad hair, you have a bad life"

Yep, that's right. Think about it, if you have bad hair, you hate looking at yourself in the mirror, you don't want to go out in public, and you don't want anyone to see you. What a bad life!

My advice today... Go get your hair done. Who doesn't look and feel beautiful after getting their hair colored/cut and styled?

Yep, everyone needs their hair colored.

They say as we get older, our hair naturally turns darker. So...

TO LOOK YOUNGER, COLOR YOUR HAIR LIGHTER!

Amazing advice, huh? I guess there is an instance where this dosen't apply.

The other day, a saleswoman came to my door. She asked if my mom was here. I was like, "huh, I am the mom" and she was really embarrassed :) So maybe in that case, I should dye my hair darker :) But believe me, everyone should dye it one way or another. You'll feel prettier :)

EVERYONE should change their hairstyle every 3 years. YES I'll repeat. That was every THREE years. SO if you have had the same hairstyle for 20 years, go do something drastic. Loose those feather bangs. Look at hair magazines, celebrity's and even people in your local Target. If NO one else has permed hair, use that as a hint. I say Target, and not Wal*Mart for a reason :) J/k I like Wal*Mart.

Okay, now, If you have good hair and still a bad life, at least you have good hair, so is it really that bad of a life? :) Go feel pretty today. If you can't go get your hair done professionally, go upstairs, and style it really good, backcomb alot, and hairspray way too much. You'll at least have a good hair day today, if not a good day all together :)

French Fish Bone Braids

When I saw this cool fish bone braid on a blog, it got me excited to do a hair blog. I thought this braid was awesome, and remember seeing it when I was little but had since long forgotten it. Here's the link with a video on how to do it at www.princesshairstyles.com.

And just to make you laugh... a funny picture.
Yes, you've heard of kids having an "attached tongue" well, my kids and I have detached tongues, making us practically gifted. I can stick my tongue up my nose, make a clover, and fold it in half and then raise it up while still folded.

Gifted, I tell you.

How to get volume...

If you are needing some volume, and don't like to rat your hair...

Blow dry your hair in the opposite direction that you want it to lay...

And then this side...

And wala! Now that I finally highlighted those nasty roots, I can give you a self portrait.
Hi. Oh, I guess some of you don't know me :) I'm Amber. I have three kids, a boy who's 4 1/2 named Taylor, a girl who's 2 1/2 named Sophia, and a baby boy who is 6 months old named Grey.

I love doing hair, and like my job most of the time. It is still a job, and only makes my life crazier, but I like the extra money, and I know I will want to have a job when my kids are in school, so I am just trying to keep my business small and hang in there for a few years.

I have given up most of my hobbies because of my rambunctious kids, so I guess blogging is my new hobby. Anyways... hope you enjoy my silly little blog.
